Day 6

Matthew 16-18

Did Jesus ever fail to do what He claimed He would? Many of Jesus' critics point to passages in the Bible and claim that He failed in keeping His word. In all those cases, people have drawn out of context an idea that can only be understood within its context. A passage in this reading is one of those that have been distorted to make it look as if Jesus didn't keep His word. I hope it caught your eye as you read this portion. Matthew 16:28 says,
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
Chapter breaks are not inspired by God and this break is in an unfortunate place. The 28th verse is better understood as the 1st verse of chapter 17. Read it like that and see if it makes a difference. It should because Peter, James, and John were taken up on to witness Jesus' transfiguration in 17:1-8.
Jesus was not referring to His millenial reign on earth but His transfiguration. Always remember that Jesus lived a perfect life and has kept or will keep in the future all His promises. We trust in a Savior that can be trusted despite the critics that say He failed. Pay attention to what you read and ask someone when things don't seem to make sense.
