Day 24

Luke 22-24

My attention was drawn to the thieves on the cross while reading today's passage. I warn you of the content of this video that is taken from the movie "The Passion." It is very graphic and bloody but best depicts the scene of the cross. So, only watch after you heed my warning.

I can't help but to think of the very high price Jesus paid for my sin. I wonder about the two men that dead with Jesus. The two men were very much alike. They were both thieves, they both talked to Jesus while on the cross, and they both had faith. However, their words to Jesus and their faith were quite different.

The first man rejected Jesus and insulted Him. This man had faith; faith in a false hope for a savior from the Roman Empire. He had hate and cruel words for the One that could save him from something bigger. His sinfulness. Perhaps, his insults were because of his misunderstanding of the Messianic mission. He called for Christ to come to his rescue in a much different way than what the mission called for. His faith was in the wrong Messiah.

The second man humbly accepted Jesus as the Messiah that had the mission of dying for the sin of the world. This thief had faith; faith in the right Messiah. He understood he had to be forgiven and the only way out of his self made mess was through the One dying beside himself.

I wonder where these two men got their information about Jesus. Both men, though they were very similar, came to two completely different conclusion, two completely different faiths, and two very different eternal destinations. Where is your faith today? Are you trusting in the one and only person that can save you from your mess. The mess you made because of your sin. If you have never trusted in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sin, do so today and be sure of your eternal destination.
